About Patrick J. LoBrutto

Patrick LoBrutto was born in Brooklyn, NY in 1948. His father was an attorney, and he grew up in a home with too many books to count.

Patrick J. LoBrutto (often credited as Pat LoBrutto) is a renowned editor in the science fiction, fantasy, horror, and thriller genres. Throughout his career at major publishing houses such as Doubleday, Ace Books, Bantam, and Tor/Forge, he has worked with some of the most iconic authors in modern literature.

Publishing Career

LoBrutto’s publishing career began while he was in graduate school, where he was studying urban planning. He took a summer job in the mailroom of Ace Books, and discovered there were people who would pay him to read. He never looked back.

Pat has worked for Ace Books, Doubleday, Bantam, M. Evans, Random House, Kensington, Stealth Press (an Internet Publisher), where he has held the position of Editor, Senior Editor and Editor-in-Chief,

Pat has edited many authors, including Isaac Asimov, Stephen King, Louis L’Amour, Brian Herbert and Kevin Anderson and Timothy Zahn.

Pat has received the World Fantasy Award for editing. He currently lectures at writer’s conferences and is on the National Advisory Board of the Writer’s Hall of Fame of America and Award Administrator for the Philip K. Dick Award.
